Owen and his Birthday cake
So, after Owen was sick on his birthday (and in no condition to eat his birthday cake) Becky decided to freeze some of the cake so that we could pull it out later when Owen was feeling better. So this week Becky thawed the cake and we let Owen eat his birthday cake (come on, we weren't going to be cheated out of that moment)!
Now, Owen has turned into a bit of a picky eater.. he really likes his pretzels, and bananas, and the various baby foods that he is given, but he's not eating much else (for example, he'll eat sweet potato baby food, but not sweet potatos, he'll eat green bean baby food, but not green beans, etc etc).
When we put the cake down on his tray, we weren't sure what to expect... He doesn't like to eat new things.. but, what kid doesn't like CAKE! Owen proceeded to play with his cake for 10-15 minutes... moving the pieces around and not putting them in his mouth! Eventually he took a test bite and decided that it wasn't so bad after all, and he ate several pieces.
Here is a link to a video I took with our digital camera.. It's in Quicktime format, so if you don't have quicktime on your computer, you'll have to go to www.Apple.com and download it.

Owen's 1st Birthday
So this past Saturday was Owen's first birthday! Our little boy is now a 1 year-old!
We had big plans for a party in place, with friends and family all coming over for food and fellowship and of course Cake and Ice-Cream!
But sadly, it was not to be, Owen came down with a stomach flu on Friday night, and was very sick on Saturday morning. Becky and I took Owen over to the Urgent Care center to see a doctor (our doctor's office is closed 1 Sat. a month..). The doctor we saw at the Urgent Care center was ready to send us on to the Emergency Room at the hospital because of concerns of dehydration (Owen wasn't keeping anything down!), but we decided to give him one more chance.. so at the Urgent Care center we game him a few ounces of water and waited around, and he kept it down.. So the doctor let us go home with strict instructions to keep a close eye on him, and to go to the ER if things got worse again (he also gave us a prescription antibiotic because he had an ear-infection going as well).
So we called our friends and canceled the party. We had both of our parents in town, as well as Jennie and Chuck, and Mike and Lisa all over... Also most of the Harkins family was able to come over for Cake and Ice Cream in the evening. So we still had a good time visiting with lots of family.
So Owen came in to the world and spent his week in Intensive Care, and so I guess it was only fitting that we spend his first birthday back at the doctors with him!
Owen's doing a bit better now, he's not 100% yet, but he's certainly in a lot better shape then he was on Sat. morning..
